New York Hotel Deals

Perhaps the most famous city in the world, New York is the destination of choice for millions of visitors every year. From U.S. residents to international tourists, everybody wants to see the sights and hear the sounds of the Big Apple.

Visitors arriving into New York City by air will most likely land at one of the city’s three major airports: John F. Kennedy International (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA), or Newark Liberty International (EWR). JFK and LaGuardia are both located in the borough of Queens, while the latter is located in Newark, N.J., but is accessible by road and rail, with trains heading to Pennsylvania Station at the heart of the city.

Visitors will find hotels located close to each of these travel hubs, whilst public transport and taxis are available for those wishing to reside on the island of Manhattan, the most popular destination for visitors.

Manhattan is home to most of New York’s most famous landmarks. These include the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building, Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange, and the World Trade Center Site. Just a short distance off the Manhattan shoreline stands the Statue of Liberty, perhaps the most iconic site the entire city has to offer.

Boat trips depart throughout the day for Liberty Island, where tourists take in the magnificent statue. Depending on the current security settings within the city, it is sometimes possible to take a tour to the top of Liberty’s crown, which provides a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline. You’re recommended to book well in advance if you wish to enjoy this feature as places are extremely limited.

Boat trips to Liberty Island – which depart from Battery Park, with tickets available from the Castle Clinton National Monument – also take in historic Ellis Island, the arrival point for more than 12 million immigrants between 1892 and 1954. Today the island serves as a museum.

For those wishing to see the urban sprawl of NYC from high, the Empire State Building is the the tallest building in the city and features an observation deck that allows you to see for miles. Alternatively, the Rockefeller Center is an excellent choice for those that wish to get an aerial photograph that includes the Empire State Building. The Rockefeller is generally less busy than the Empire State Building. Both offer excellent views of the Chrysler Building, One World Trade Center, and the New York Times Building, three of the city’s other gigantic skyscrapers.

Thanks to its prevalence in films and on television, the city of New York is also home to a flurry of less obvious landmarks, those made famous by the likes of ‘Friends’ and ‘Sex and the City’ or the countless movies filmed in the city. Everywhere you step, you’re bound to see another recognizable feature.

New York is home to a number of museums and galleries, perfect for those looking to enjoy a spot of culture. The most popular of these is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, whilst the American Museum of Natural History is another popular choice. These two institutes flank Central Park (more on that later), which makes the walk between the two just perfect. The Guggenheim Museum – which also flanks the east side of Central Park – is another popular choice thanks to its unique architectural design and collection of world class art.

The aforementioned Central Park is the perfect destination for all visitors. Whether you’re looking for a family getaway, a romantic break, or a sightseeing cavalcade, this massive manmade park is a great place to visit. Families will enjoy the recreational spaces, which include playgrounds, baseball diamonds, and plenty of green grass, while romantics will enjoy a carriage ride through the park. The reservoir, along with the park’s other four lakes, makes for a chance to spot wildlife or watch model sailboats, while there are numerous statues to be found throughout the park.

Of course, one of New York’s most interminable sights is that of Times Square. The famous lights and video screens of Times Square shine 24-hours a day, and make for a particularly impressive sight after dark. From here visitors can enjoy the theaters on and off Broadway, which host some of the most famous shows around, including ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Chicago’, and ‘The Lion King’. Those three are the current longest running shows in the city.

Other popular attractions include Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Opera House, all of which offer an assortment of musical performance.

From Times Square, visitors can also embark on the shopping trip of a lifetime. New York’s most famous shopping address if Fifth Avenue, which features both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, but Midtown as a whole is home to a vast number of shops and stores.

The city of New York is also known for its sports. Visitors can take in a baseball game at Yankee Stadium (The Bronx) or Citi Field (Queens) during the summer, as well as ice hockey and basketball, both of which are hosted at Madison Square Garden. This Midtown venue is possibly the most famous arena in the world, and has hosted musical concerts, professional wrestling, boxing, and a wealth of other events in its long and storied history. The New York Marathon (November) and U.S. Open (August) are other sporting events worth checking out.

One of the most multicultural cities in the world, New York’s individual neighborhoods offers plenty to enjoy also. Little Italy and Chinatown are popular destinations, while the East Village – which has constantly welcomes new immigrants into the city – is a vibrant mix of cultures, and a must see.

Those looking to travel further afield may enjoy a trip to Coney Island in Brooklyn, which features a boardwalk with a funfair, or head up the Bronx Zoo. Even the New Jersey shore, readily accessible by car and train, has plenty to enjoy.

New York is a smelting pot of attractions and landmarks, with more to do and enjoy than anybody can achieve in just one visit. Fortunately, the city’s hotel and its underground railway system make it easy to navigate, putting all of its treasures at your fingertips.
