Luxury private resort isle amongst the Whitsunday Islands
Opened in 1950 following building funded by Reginald Ansett, founder of Ansett Australia, one of the country’ s first major airlines, the Hayman Island Resort has developed into one of the most famed and popular Great Barrier Reef destinations.
Hayman Island, which is the most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands, is surrounded by the natural beauty of coral reefs and the luscious fauna and flora associated with the region. Visitors that make their way to the isle can almost guarantee a relaxing and serene stay. That is if this is what they choose. Like many of the islands around it, there is plenty of activity and adrenaline on offer.
The resort itself consists of 210 rooms, suites, villas, penthouses and even a beach house. Each offers its own unique touches but there are standards throughout. All feature a private terrace or balcony, allowing guests to fully enjoy the spectacular vistas.
All include a wide range of amenities either in the bedroom or the living area. Guests can expect air-conditioning and fans, LCD television with cable channels and pay-per-view movies, wireless internet and direct dial telephone, and in-room safe. A personal bar and mini refrigerator are included as standard, as is a hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and tea and coffee making facilities.
The resort offers a number of additional extras including iPod docks, converters and adaptors, and laundry and dry-cleaning service. A nightly turndown and 24 hour room service are also available for those that desire such.
Dining options at the Hayman Island Resort are almost as expansive as the beautiful sights on offer. Visitors can enjoy a meal in one of the resorts many restaurants, which serve a wide variety of international dishes. As well as traditional Australian cuisine, guests can enjoy the likes of Italian, Oriental, or European dishes. These dining options are enhanced by a range of lounges and bars. Perhaps most stunning is the Hayman Pool Bar which is surrounded by swimming pools with an incredible scenic backdrop.
Guests can enjoy a number of physical activities within the hotel grounds, including a gymnasium, basketball, tennis and squash. Mental relaxation comes in the form of the resort’s spa which offers guests a wide range of beauty and holistic treatments, perfect for loosening any stress knots.
But it’s the natural environment that offers the best in entertainment, exercise and holidaying. The corals of the Great Barrier Reef can be visited by sea or air, including snorkelling and scuba diving. The many beautiful isles that make up the Whitsunday Islands can be looked upon by air or visited. Charter boat trips can prove both scenic and calming.
Let’s not forget lounging on the beach, enjoying a sunset, taking part in adventurous water-sports, or picnicking in the natural environment of the island. As well as all of this, the Hayman Island Resort also makes for a very suitable location for weddings or even corporate events. The private island really is multifunctional yet relaxed and indulgent, perfect for getting away from day-to-day life.
